Remedy Regains Control Of Alan Wake – Is A New Game Inbound?

Alan Wake

Many of you know Alan Wake as the amazing thriller from Remedy Entertainment that was released back in 2012. While there was a follow-up to the popular title, it wasn’t quite the sequel that fans were hoping for. In fact, it wasn’t even a sequel at all. That said, there is now a better chance that we could be seeing Alan Wake 2 happening now that Remedy has control of the publishing rights once again.

Remedy has already had rights to the base IP for some time, however, Microsoft has been the rights holder when it comes to publishing. This means that even if the studio had developed a sequel, it would have had to go through Microsoft first. Now that they fully own Alan Wake, Remedy could essentially make a sequel anytime they’d like.

Even though the devs are busy with Control at the moment, it doesn’t mean we won’t see that highly anticipated Alan Wake sequel. Director of communications Thomas Puha even stated back in April that the company isn’t against sequels. “We’ve got nothing against sequels, so definitely Control is something that we want to be working on in the future,” he said. “But of course, the first game has to be as good as it can to even build that platform that we can make more, so that’s what we’re focused on.”

For those who don’t know what Alan Wake is all about, here’s more:

“When the wife of the best-selling writer Alan Wake disappears on their vacation, his search turns up pages from a thriller he doesn’t even remember writing. A Dark Presence stalks the small town of Bright Falls, pushing Wake to the brink of sanity in his fight to unravel the mystery and save his love.

“Presented in the style of a TV series, Alan Wake features the trademark Remedy storytelling and pulse-pounding action sequences. As players dive deeper and deeper into the mystery, they’ll face overwhelming odds, plot twists, and cliffhangers. It’s only by mastering the Fight With Light combat mechanic that they can stay one step ahead of the darkness that spreads across Bright Falls.

“With the body of an action game and the mind of a psychological thriller, Alan Wake’s intense atmosphere, deep and multilayered story, and exceptionally tense combat sequences provide players with an entertaining and original gaming experience.”
