The Flash Video Game We Almost Got – Here’s What it Would Have Looked Like (Video)

Whether be it Barry Allen or Wally West for comic book fans, The Flash has always been a big DC Comics character and member of the Justice League. His popularity has only risen in recent years with the introduction of The Flash TV series as well as all the buzz surrounding  Allen and Warner Bros upcoming take on the League of Heroes pushing the speedster even further into the mainstream. It’s hard to believe that as far back as 2007 plans for a Flash video game were in the works in contrast to today when the character’s popularity is it at an all time high.

Flash video game

Being a huge fan of the RockSteady’s Batman Arkham game series, my first thought when this story came across my desk was how rad it would be to have a Flash video game in the same style but I digress. In a 17 minute featurette, the team over at Unseen64 (“an independent, non-profit online archive dedicated to the preservation of videogame history“) outlines the story of Bottle Rocket and Brash Entertainment’s failed attempt at an open world Flash game.  The game set in the fictional Central and Keystone cities would have featured the Wally West iteration of the fastest man alive with focus on the hero’s early years while learning to use his powers. Take a gander at the video below

The game was slated for a 2009 release that would have put the title on Xbox 360, PS3 and possibly the Nintendo Wii but due to the closing of Brash Entertainment’s offices, the project was ultimately trashed even though it was well into development at the time. As we mentioned previously, this being the apex of the speedster’s popularity might be enough to give birth to an entirely new Flash video game and perhaps even better than the one that we missed out on. What did you think of the featurette and what kind of Flash game would you want to see released within the next couple of years? We hear the folks over at Rocksteady have been working on a new project . . .
