No Man’s Sky Player Recreates Notre Dame After Devastating Fire
It was only a few days ago when a fire broke out at one of the world’s most recognizable landmarks, the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France. While the inferno was stopped before most of the centuries-old structure could be lost, the Gothic cathedral is nonetheless missing a huge section of its and iconic architecture and historically significant artwork.
The past few days has seen the world come together to help Notre Dame’s restoration, the effort inspiring the gaming community in a number of creative ways. For instance, one fan has now immortalized the ancient building in space survival game No Man’s Sky, placing the famed religious structure on a lush alien world. Posted by a Reddit user known as “258100,” the recreated Notre Dame looks pretty spectacular, especially so considering they built it entirely from scratch.
After “trial and error” 3D modelling in Blender and utilizing the Base Builder plug-in mod, 258100 was able to craft a truly amazing Notre Dame in the open world title, even if its only fully viewable from certain angles. After custom-making the structure with over 2,000 parts, 258100 says that they’d still be game to make a full-fledged version of the French landmark, but such advanced capabilities are “not possible just yet” with the tools available. As a bonus, the user shared a number of screenshots, which can be viewed in the album below.
Travellers curious about this otherworldly Notre Dame need only head to the coordinates ETAT:055A:0076:0E31:01D4 in No Man’s Sky. However, those interested in paying tribute to the religious architecture elsewhere might find solace in Ubisoft’s recent campaign. In addition to pledging a significant donation, the successful French company also opted to offer Assassin’s Creed Unity for free to let gamers explore Notre Name recreated from its 18th-century heyday.
No Man’s Sky is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
