The Witcher Devs Agree To More Monetary Compensation For Original Author
Late last year, The Witcher series author Andrzej Sapkowski lodged a complaint against developer CD Projekt RED, demanding additional compensation be provided to him given how cheaply he gave up the rights to the series before the developer made Geralt of Rivia a household name. CD Projekt RED understandably was not amused, stating that Sapkowski’s demands were “groundless with regard to their merit as well as the stipulated amount.” Now, despite both parties seemingly playing hardball, it appears that an amiable resolution may be coming in the near future.
The news comes by way of the folks over at Wccftech, who revealed that while CD Projekt RED doesn’t feel that it owes Andrzej Sapkowski anything further, they want to “maintain good relations with authors of works which have inspired CD Projekt RED’s own creations.” Whether deserving or not, this means that Sapkowski is getting at the very least some of what he asked for.
Consequently, the Board will go to great lengths to ensure amicable resolution of this dispute; however, any such resolution must be respectful of previously expressed intents of both parties, as well as existing contracts.”
With that statement, it appears that both parties are finalizing a deal that will see a “reconciliation” between author and developer. Whether or not this will lead to a future collaboration remains to be seen, though at least both parties will hopefully walk away the better for the deal. That aside, at least one person still things Sapkowski is an ungrateful schmuck.
