THQ Nordic Acquires Two More Studios, Is Developing 35 Unannounced Games
THQ Nordic just announced the acquisition of two more companies. Bugbear Interactive (Wreckfest) and Coffee Stain Studios (Goat Simulator) have joined THQ’s stable of developers. The news arrived via the company’s Q3 2018 financial report, which must show considerably more black than red. This is a redemption that rivals any other in the history of gaming.
The publisher expects big things from the companies as they continue to hedge their bets. The financial report also shows that they have 55 total games in development, 35 of which remain unannounced.
The company acquired the rights to Timesplitters, Biomutant, and Kingdoms of Amalur in recent months, among others. They’ve also teamed with Nickelodeon to bring back some classic cartoon-inspired games. Deep Silver, one of their previous acquisitions, will launch the incredible Metro Exodus next February. That’s an incredible slate of titles, and it barely scratches the surface of their development list.
Oh, and Darksiders III launches later this month. The title became one of the most anticipated games of the year the moment it was announced. The trailers and details we’ve received so far indicate that it should live up to the hype. With that launch, THQ Nordic will have truly come full circle. Darksiders II served as the company’s swan song before the company field for bankruptcy.
It’s getting harder and harder to remember that THQ Nordic filed for Chapter 11 six years ago. Since then, a number of their best-selling hits fell by the wayside. Given the current state of affairs, we should see a revival for some of their titles in the near future. Saints Row, for example, is coming to Nintendo Switch after three years on the shelf. Additionally, Saints Row The Third and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey director Scott Phillips wants a return to the franchise. As long as players buy the games, THQ Nordic should be riding high for some time.
Darksiders III releases November 27 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. THQ Nordic and developer Gunfire Games announced that two DLCs will drop shortly after the game’s official launch.
What do you think about THQ Nordic’s return to power? How far will their umbrella reach? Or could this be a recipe for further financial disaster? Sound off in the comment section below. For more gaming news and updates, be sure to follow DFTG on Facebook and Twitter!
