Watch Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales 37 Minutes Of Gameplay (VIDEO)
Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is a RPG card-based adventure based on the famed minigame from the Witcher 3, Gwent. While the concept might seem a little strange, CD Projekt RED has stepped up to help fans understand a little better about what’s to come. The company has released a new 37 minute-long video to show off just how the combination of story and card game will come together.
Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is set before the first Witcher game and follows the war veteran Queen Meve during the second Nilfgaardian Invasion of Lyria. The video below begins close to the beginning of the game but skips ahead a bit to avoid spoilers. There the video shows players being able to move around in a “overmap” before moving onward into a battle sequence.
Battles play out similarly to the well-loved minigame from the Witcher franchise Gwent both in looks and mechanics. Players who are familiar with Gwent’s mechanics should find the gameplay within Thronebreaker to feel incredibly familiar allowing them to get right into the action without too much training. While the gameplay might not appeal as much to the more RPG-oriented audience, it’s sure to provide a fresh and unique take on the franchise:
As mentioned in the video, players will be required to make some tough decisions outside of combat which will affect the story and potentially gameplay itself. The narrator explains that eventually, Queen Meve will have to take responsibility for her actions meaning players will need to think carefully and choose wisely.
Thronebreaker is set to release on October 23rd for PC, with versions for Xbox and PlayStation 4 set to release on December 4th. Are you ready to return to the lands within the Witcher franchise?
