Cyberpunk 2077 Dev Talks Relation To ‘The Witcher III,’ “Emergent” Gameplay

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 is bound to release at some point in the hopefully not too distant future, but fans still crave the almighty knowledge that is the release date. While CD Projekt RED is being secretive when it comes to the title’s launch, they are certainly keeping those anticipating the RPG in the know.

That said, we now know what the developer’s thoughts are when it comes to “emergent” gameplay mechanics being included in the futuristic RPG. Speaking with Gaming Bolt, level designer Miles Tost stated that it is “Too early to really talk about this. If it makes sense, and if we could pull it off in a way that feels organic and meets our quality standards, then maybe.”

“But we’re certainly not going to be artificially extending the playtime by pushing more content into the game,” they continued. “If it can add to our story-driven experience in a meaningful way, we’re not closed off to anything. Personally, I think our strength lies in creating handcrafted experiences.” As fans saw from the 48-minute gameplay demo of Cyberpunk 2077, there is going to be a ton of stuff going on. The development team surely has a full plate, so we’ll have to see what makes it to the game, and what doesn’t.

Speaking of which, another point that was brought up during the talk was how it’s been stated several times over that what was seen in the demo is not the final product, and that there will likely be changes made. This brought a bout of concern from fans, as some had thought this meant the game would see downgrades. The Witcher III was accused of receiving a downgrade, which prompted the asking of whether or not that held any influence over the release of the Cyberpunk 2077 footage.

“The demo gameplay video was recorded from a work in progress version of the game and we were a bit uncertain if we should release it to the general public as we didn’t want to commit to any particular design,” Tost said. “A lot can change between now and launch, but you can be certain that we’re not going to release a game we’re not happy with.”

Cyberpunk 2077 remains without a release date, but it is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Keep it tuned to Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops, and for other gaming goodness going on right now, check out the following:
