We’ve seen several video game films release in 2016 from middling to downright terrible critical reception. While we have the Assassin’s Creed film to finish out 2016, hope is still on the horizon for a good film based on a video game in Warner Bros.’ upcoming Minecraft movie. The project currently has It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney in the director’s chair, as well as the writer’s room with co-script writer Jason Fuchs. The film is currently slated for a release on May 25, 2019, and it might now have its first big name star in the official cast list.

According to a recent article from Variety, Academy Award-nominated actor Steve Carrell, best known as Michael Scott from the U.S. version of The Office, is currently in talks to star in the film adaption of the mega-hit video game and merchandising machine. There is no official word on who Carrell would be portraying, but considering he would be the first cast member officially announced, one could theorize he would be playing the film’s main character. While the identity of the film’s protagonist has been announced, it very well likely is Steve, the protagonist from the main Minecraft game. There would also be some good kismet in this casting of an actor with the same first name. If Warner Bros. is listening, may I suggest Willem Dafoe to portray at least one of the Creepers?
