Borderlands 3 May Not Have A Release Date Until 2020

Gearbox Job Listing

The massive Wal-Mart leak that prematurely outed several video games titles upcoming and unannounced was likely one of the biggest as of late. What made the entire fiasco more enticing is the fact the most of them have been revealed since then with the official announcement of titles such as Rage 2 and Borderlands 3 for example. However, the latter game from Gearbox Software may not arrive to platforms as soon as the community may think. In fact, the highly anticipated sequel may not have a release date until 2020.

Currently, there are guesses aiming for an October 2018 release window, but that seemed to be snubbed by Gearbox co-founder Randy Pitchford quickly. Though he doesn’t outright deny this year’s Fall window, he does declare that Borderlands 3 will not be at E3 2018 in a reflective series of Twitter posts. In other words, it likely won’t arrive this year.

Those concerned about the likelihood of the next Borderlands sequel need not worry – it IS happening and the developers at Gearbox are hard at work on making it a reality. In regards to when and what it will be called is still up in the air. In fact, in an interview with Eurogamer, Pitchford solidified its place in the gaming world, but the title? Not so much. “We don’t even know if we’re going to call it that,” said Pitchford. “We could call it Borderlands 4 for all we know.”

What about a 2019 release year then? Well, according to a recent earning report, 2K games notes that a “highly anticipated” game has been delayed until the 2020 fiscal year, which is set between April 2nd, 2019 and March 31st, 2020. Although the franchise isn’t specified, there are only a few guesses based on those already revealed – BioShock and Borderlands. That comment then likely pertains to the latter is our guess.

Whenever it comes, eager fans are ready for the next kooky, cel-shaded post-apocalyptic adventure. Despite its lacking presence this year at E3, there are a bunch of other IPs out there to celebrate and look forward to.
