Enjoying its first week out, and already touting perfect reviews from the community at large, God of War’s hotly anticipated release was not a letdown. This title had strong hype prior to release and while some fans were nervous the game might fall flat, it has proven to be exactly what it promised. Now the title is receiving an outpouring of support on the PlayStation 4 and making history. In lieu of that, game director Cory Barlog and Sony have put together a God of War tips video to give fans a leg up.

As seen in the God of War tips video below, there are a lot of strategies available in this title. Dubbed “5 Gameplay Tips for God of War,” players get an official breakdown of how to handle combat and utilize Atreus. While nothing about the video or these tips will spoil the story, be warned that it does break down mechanics. For those who haven’t had a chance to play and want to figure it out for themselves, now is the time to check out some other articles on this site. Tip 1 – Battlefield Awareness

There are some vast differences between this title and the first release with a complete overhaul of combat. The first of the God of War tips focus on paying close attention to the surroundings. Knowing what’s coming will allow players to make tactical decisions that could turn the tide of battle early.

Tip 2 – Use the Leviathan Axe for Crowd Control

While this badass blade can fix an enemy in place, trying to take down a swarm of enemies can be difficult without a weapon. Calling the axe back can help cut through the competition.

Tip 3 – Stun Enemies With Atreus

Atreus, son of Kratos, isn’t just another small time character you need to protect. He’s got enough grit and smarts to help in battle. Use this character to open up enemies and build stun, creating opportunities and help survive.

Tip 4 – Spartan Rage

This “get out of jail free card” has some powerful moves to help turn the tide. Kratos can easily build stun while increasing health, and certain button triggers allow for an area of effect attacks when initiated. With more unlockable abilities there is an entire suite of abilities at the player’s disposal over time.

Tip 5 – Evade

If you’re the hack-n-slash type it may be difficult for you to back down from a fight. With evasion, a player can sidestep an attack or completely roll out of the way if necessary. This is particularly helpful on attacks that cannot be blocked. Don’t be afraid to duck out for a second to get the advantage on your way back in.

Of course, some of these God of War tips may seem like common sense. It is nice, however, to see that the developers want to help out the community and make sure they’re getting the most out of the title. God of War is exclusively available on PlayStation 4 and for those on the fence, you just might be missing out.
