The Last of Us Remastered Runs 60 FPS Better on Regular Playstation 4 Than Playstation 4 Pro

The Last of Us Playstation 4 Pro

The Playstation 4 Pro has officially launched, and many are finally playing the most popular Playstation 4 titles in 4K and UHD for the first time. However, not every game is performing entirely better on the upgraded PS4. A recent video produced by the Digital Foundry team has compared The Last of Us Remastered on the PS4 Pro to the standard PS4, and it appears that the Pro does not seem to handle the game running at 60 FPS compared to the original system. Like the infamous Clickers, it could have some Last of Us fans running.

The video shows the same portions of the game played on both consoles, with a tracker monitoring the frames per second. The Playstation 4 Pro notably showed dips in the framerate, while the standard PS4 ran the game consistently at 60 fps. In the video, Digital Foundry iterates that the 1800p resolution was to blame for the lessened performance. Also, the PS4 Pro has the added variable of alpha transparency effects that lets background images show and mix with foreground color, which the standard console lacks that spreads the GPU’s bandwidth more thin. However, Digital Foundry confirmed that the game does run consistently at 30 FPS, where it is “better optimized for its intended purpose”.

The latest patch for The Last of Us Remastered, which is needed to download before PS4 Pro owners can play the game in 4K and/or HDR color, is available now. What do you guys think? What system would you prefer to play The Last of Us Remastered on? What frame rate will you prefer? Let us know in the comments below!
