Play of the Game 2.0 in the Works for Overwatch

Overwatch

What is there to say about Overwatch? It’s fantastic, and we here at Don’t Feed the Gamers can’t get enough of it! Everything from the glorious competitive action down to the wonderful events that have happened, Overwatch is downright awesome. Low on that list of awesome, however, is the Play of the Game. While it may be great in its own right, PotG can be awful at times. Sure, Junkrat driving his tire into a crowd can be devastatingly fun, and even worthy of the PotG, but what about Mercy when she revives the team just in time to stop the final push? Both are great, but sometimes, PotG just isn’t right.

“There’s a plan to do what we’re calling Play of the Game 2.0”

PotG problems aren’t news, though. Since the release of Overwatch, players have been increasingly complaining about its unfairness to the team aspect of the game. Lead hero designer Geoff Goodman told Kotaku during an interview at BlizzCon, “We are tweaking it regularly, but not massively revamping it.” However, this is not all that he said. “There’s a plan to do what we’re calling Play of the Game 2.0,” he said. “It’s been on the books for a little while. It’s just a matter of prioritizing everything. We have a lot of really cool ideas. We want to do a lot with the camera work. We have ideas for cooperative Play of the Games. Because what we have right now, is Zarya could ult, and then Genji gets the credit. And that’s like, ‘Come on!’”

With changes on the horizon for Overwatch’s PotG, we can only hope greatness comes from it. The interviewer notes that he mentioned how maybe “intros could show heroes high-fiving or hugging or doing special character-specific animations,” to which Goodman responded, “I hadn’t even thought about that,”and “That’s cool!” Whatever happens, we can only hope PotG 2.0 turns out to be something like TesterGoneWild‘s concept video.

What say you, gamers? Too much of the same in PotG? Not enough healer love? What are your thoughts on the revealing of Sombra? Excited? We certainly are!
