Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds Cross-Play on the Table for PC and Console

Developer Bluehole has enjoyed high popularity on Steam since the early access release of their latest game in March. To ramp up the excitement, it was announced at E3 that the game was coming to consoles. Now it has been revealed that Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds cross-play potential is on the table for discussion.

In a recent interview, executive producer Chang Han Kim mentioned that there may be possible Battlegrounds cross-play in the future. From what he had to say, there was no reason the team couldn’t make it happen. The only obstacle he noted was that of balance between different control schemes.

Cross-network play between the PC and the console is definitely something we want to do down the road, and we don’t anticipate we’ll have any technical issues with that. But… when you consider the competitive side of the game, I do feel that there’s a balance issue between controllers and keyboard and mouse. That’s what’s making it difficult for us to do [it] right away.

If we’re going to allow players to use controllers, we need to have the aim assist added in and things like that. We’re not going to be supporting it right away, but it’s something we’d like to look into later.”

The industry has been abuzz with news of cross-play lately. With Minecraft and Rocket League opening up for Switch, PC, and Xbox One and talks of Final Fantasy XIV potentially having the functionality too, fans are getting excited for what the future may bring. A Battlegrounds cross-play feature would only add to that. Time will tell if this game and many others join the ranks, but it certainly is an exciting leap for the future of gaming.

What games would be awesome to see get the cross-play treatment? Will Battlegrounds cross-play be able to balance the control issues? Join in on the conversation in the comment section below! Don’t forget to follow DFTG on Twitter for live gaming and entertainment news 24/7!
