For Studio Ghibli fans across the globe, nothing could be better than getting to step into one of Hayao Miyazaki’s stories and experiencing first-hand the often magical and heart-felt worlds provided by the creative minds of this incredible studio. Luckily for many, that dream is becoming a reality with the future opening of Ghibli Park, a theme-park based entirely off of the beautiful world of Miyazaki’s tale “My Neighbor Totoro”.

According to Chunichi Web, the site explains that the park will be located outside of Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. While many might assume that a theme park will include rides, Ghibli Park will be taking a different approach to the attractions. Instead, it is more of a scenic experience, allowing visitors to explore the 200 hectare world around Satsuke and Mei’s home and enjoy all the flora throughout the four seasons. It sounds like a beautiful experience, and definitely right up Studio Ghibli’s alley when it comes to experiencing the world from a more serene approach.

Seeing the world of Totoro brought to life definitely evokes a lot of nostalgia in fans, which only makes the extensive wait for this park’s opening date that much longer. While it doesn’t open until 2020, illustrator Martin Hsu has visited the theme park and reported that it is fully interactive. That means visitors are allowed to touch and explore everything within the park’s domain (though photography is limited).

2020 is a long time to wait for this beautiful park to open, though die-hard fans should have quite the experience in store for them when the arena finally premiers. In conjunction with this latest news, Miyazaki fans were also treated with the knowledge that this legendary director’s final film will begin production this year. It’s a time of celebration for Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli, and no true fan can wait to really experience the best of these worlds, whether it be exploring Ghibli Park, or waiting in anticipation for another installment of films to come.
