No Microtransactions for Arma Developers Free New Game “Argo” Coming Next Month

A release date was announced by Bohemia Interactive for Argo, the free to play tactical shooter. Their latest game will be available for PC on June 22nd. Fans of the Arma games will see that the two have a lot in common. The title is a realistic, tactical military shooter and it is set on an island that was inspired by the first Arma game. Apparently it was originally meant to be a “total conversion” of Arma 3, but is now all its own full game.

Not only does Argo have 5 on 5 competitive multiplayer, it also has a co-op mode named Combat Control where 10 people can work together to complete missions and fight AI enemies. Players can also customize Combat Patrol objectives using a simpler version of the Arma 3 scenario editor. Arma players can see some videos of the game’s multiplayer here. According to Bohemia Interactive, the game itself has changed significantly since its origin as a conversion of Arma 3.

“Some of the most notable changes have been the reduction of in-game UI elements, the introduction of an unlock system and leaderboards, various changes to the terrain, a redesign of the Link game mode, the addition of the Combat Patrol cooperative mode, and various other tweaks to help emphasize the importance of teamplay and communication.”

Instead of the normal path free to play games take, Argo will feature no microtransactions. Bohemia will instead raise money with the completely optional Argo Supporter’s Pack that includes 22 cosmetic items, 14 animations for the end of match MVP screen, ability to use vehicles in the scenario editor, and special access to the premium Argo Support servers. Arma 3 players will be happy to know that they will also be receiving Combat Patrol mode and a version of Argo‘s island map.

You can purchase Argo on Steam once it’s released or you can download the Project Argo Open Prototype on the Bohemian Interactive website. Will you be playing Argo?
