While fans of the manga, animated film, and series Ghost in the Shell may be on the fence about certain aspects of the live-action film, there is no denying that the attention to detail is definitely there. Once scene, in particular, that may stand out is the iconic battle between Major Kusanagi and a Tank. In a recent interview, Scarlett Johansson talks about wielding the weapon used in the battle and what it was like.

We fight to the death! It’s a massive, humungous sequence. I had this fucking enormous weapon, and I’m running around with it. I learned to love it but I felt like I was getting my arms ripped off.”

For those unfamiliar, Ghost in the Shell began in the late 80s as a manga created by Masamune Shirow that ran on into the 2000s. The franchise enjoyed its first animated debut in 1995 with Ghost in the Shell, featuring the tank scene Johansson talks about. Since then, there have been more movies, Video Games, and a TV series to build the incredible sci-fi world of Major Kusanagi and the task force known as Section-9. The story is centered on self-identity and how an overly technological society can sometimes blur those ideas.

The film was originally set to release on April 14th of this year however, the studio chose to push for an earlier date of March 31st. The live-action version of Ghost in the Shell has seen some criticism for casting choices, Johansson talks about these concerns in recent interviews as well. Overall Ghost in the Shell looks to be on point, taking source material from various aspects of the franchise. We’ll have to wait and see if it holds up, but from the look of things – it definitely has a fighting chance.
