Xbox Series X Dashboard Is Getting A High Resolution Update
It looks like the Xbox Series X dashboard is going to get just a bit prettier thanks to an upcoming update. Microsoft has announced that certain parts of the dashboard will be getting a high resolution makeover in a future update. In the meantime, Xbox Insiders with Alpha Skip-Ahead access can check out the improvements for themselves.
Microsoft took to its Xbox Insider website to detail the Alpha Skip-Ahead release notes for build 2109.210813-2200. Available now as a mandatory system update, the new build isn’t exactly earth shattering, with the one notable improvement being the aforementioned resolution improvements for parts of the Xbox Series X dashboard. Basically, those with a 4K monitor or TV connected to their consoles will have the option to increase the resolution of their dashboards. According to Microsoft, “this change means Home, Guide, and other areas of the UI will be displayed in a higher native resolution for increased sharpness and text readability.”
The resolution improvements are certainly welcome, as the dashboard has been rocking the same 1080p resolution since the console launched last year. That said, it should be noted that, per Microsoft’s wording, not all aspects of the dashboard will have access to the increased resolution. That could change in the future, but in the meantime the update is only for the Home, Guide, and said “other areas” of the UI. Still, it’s better than nothing.
The higher resolution dashboard isn’t the only Xbox Series X console feature Microsoft has been working on. Just last week we reported that Microsoft was testing various features for a Night Mode, which adds a screen dimmer, blue light filter, and other handy bits of functionality. Details on that can be found right here.
