While most major film releases are being pushed back so they can release in theaters safely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Warner Bros. has opted for a different strategy. Last year, he studio announced that all of their 2021 major films will still be coming to theaters, as well as their HBO Max streaming service on the same day. This will include Godzilla Vs. Kong later this month, and the Mortal Kombat reboot next month. Another will be the long-awaiting sequel to the 90s hit Space Jam, and now the first official Space Jam: A New Legacy photos have been revealed.

Entertainment Weekly has released the first official Space Jam: A New Legacy photos as a part of their latest Space Jam-focused issue of their magazine. The sequel now stars NBA star LeBron James, replacing the iconic performance of Michael Jordan in the first film. In the sequel, LeBron and his young son are transported to a digital world with no escape. An evil algorithm portrayed by Don Cheadle will only allow them to leave if LeBron is able to lead the Looney Tunes to another basketball game victory.
The new Space Jam: A New Legacy photos show LeBron, Bugs Bunny and the rest of the Looney Tunes in their new Tune Squad uniforms. This also shows the new CG-designs of the classic cartoon characters, now embodying more of a 3D look with furry textures and greater details. We also get to see Cheadle as Al-G rhythm and LeBron’s son Dom, portrayed by Cedric Joe. The film seems like it might just be the right balance of 90s nostalgia and modern film sensibilities. Everybody get up, it’s time to slam once more.
