Uncharted Movie Delay Pushes Release Date To Next Year
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted many industries, with the theatrical film industry being among the most notoriously affected. As most theaters remained closed for much of 2020, most major studios decided to delay their big blockbuster releases out of last year and/or move them to a release on streaming services. While a COVID-19 vaccine is being distributed, it seems that this strategy will continue on into 2021, with Warner Bros. deciding to release its films in theaters and HBO Max on the same days. However, some studios are simply opting to postpone major releases for now, with Sony announcing yet another Uncharted movie delay alongside its other upcoming films.
The Hollywood Reporter shared news of the big changes to Sony’s upcoming slate of film releases, including another Uncharted movie delay. The Uncharted movie is now being pushed back from its release of July 16th this year, to February 11th of 2022. This new release date was later verified by The Game Awards founder and Doctor of Dew Geoff Keighley. It was already confirmed that filming on the Uncharted movie has already been completed, so this delay would seem to be more for the economic viability of a theatrical release and the safety of the public.

Aside from the Uncharted movie delay, Sony announced delays for other major films. Its Ghostbusters: Afterlife film has been moved from June 11th to November 11th of this year and the Cinderella adaptation starring Camila Cabello has also been moved from this February to July 16th. The new film focused on Spider-Man villain Morbius has also been delayed past this October to January 21st of next year. While some fans may be disappointed by these delays, hopefully, the majority of people will understand the safety precautions being taken, and the financial weight of these decisions. Hopefully, these movies arrive on these dates or sooner, and our luck meters hold out until then just like Nathan Drake’s.
