New Star Wars Game Being Developed By Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment
This appears to be Lucasfilm Games’ week following the freshening up of their Twitter account. We recently learned that an Indiana Jones game is in the works at Bethesda and Machine Games, but now we know something new that is happening: Ubisoft is making an open-world Star Wars game.
That’s right, the EA exclusivity over the Star Wars license is effectively no more (it officially ends in 2023), and while we will continue to see games from EA based on the popular sci-fi IP, it appears that it is now time for others to take a crack at it. That’s where Ubisoft comes in. According to a recent announcement, Ubisoft’s Massive Entertainment will be developing a “brand-new, story-driven, open-world” adventure set in the Star Wars universe.
We’re thrilled to announce we are working with @Ubisoft and @UbiMassive to develop a brand-new, story-driven, open-world Star Wars adventure!

“We’re really excited about an opportunity to work with the team at Massive, led by David Polfeldt and the creative director, Julian Gerighty,” Lucasfilm Games VP Douglas Reilly said. “We’ve spent almost a year now, working to get to know them and what they want to bring to the table. I’m a huge fan of them, personally. I think we’re really excited about where that project is going, because they have a unique vision for the story and the game they want to deliver.”
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot also spoke about the partnership (via Wired), noting that it is an “incredible opportunity” for the company. “The Star Wars galaxy is an amazing source of motivation for our teams to innovate and push the boundaries of our medium,” Guillemot said. “Building new worlds, characters and stories that will become lasting parts of the Star Wars lore is an incredible opportunity for us, and we are excited to have our Ubisoft Massive studio working closely with Lucasfilm Games to create an original Star Wars adventure that is different from anything that has been done before.”
As many of you may know, Massive is known for The Division series, and while some may want a third entry, it may not be the best time for it considering everything going on in the world. Star Wars, however, there is always time for, especially when it comes to an open-world title. There aren’t any specifics known at this time, but we will likely learn more in the coming months.
