New PUBG Leak Hints At A “Tournament-Style” Game Mode (VIDEO)

PUBG

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds helped explore and develop the highly popular battle royale genre. Current generation battle royale titles such as Fall Guys, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone continuously try to separate themselves from the pack by bringing fans new ways to fight or experience the genre all while maintaining the main premise of whittling down players until there’s just one left. Now, a new leak seems to indicate that PUBG is once again looking to make a major play by adding a new game mode with elements from the auto-battler genre, à la Teamfight Tactics.

A video has arrived that delves into this leaked new game mode called Vostok, meaning ‘East’ in Russian, and it suggests that PUBG is looking at incorporating auto chess-like mechanics into the world of shooters. According to the video, players will be fighting 1 v 1 arena battles all while other players are doing the same. Depending on who wins and who loses, players will find themselves amongst an ever-shifting bracket of battles until eventually they’re eliminated and one player remains. Whether players are eliminated by losing enough points from a sort of health pool or if it’s based on a certain number of losses wasn’t discernible, but it’s an intriguing concept nonetheless.

The video also touched on what appears to be some sort of currency that players will be able to earn, potentially giving them an edge in battle through weapons, equipment, or maybe even seeding in the tournament-style game mode. It’s probable this would also include a way to obtain some new cosmetic items that could be equipped on characters or their weapons.

PUBG is currently available for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 with a mobile version being available for Android and iOS. Would you be interested in an FPS auto battler game mode?
