Xbox To Begin Testing New Microsoft Store Experience Soon
One of the major things that can turn fans off of something in the world of technology is the user interface. A piece of tech might be able to run well, but if the UI isn’t exactly good, some people might avoid it. That said, Xbox Insiders will soon begin testing a completely rebuilt Microsoft Store experience on Xbox that looks to be offering up a much cleaner UI than what is currently in place.
Principal program manager Cody Bird recently took to Xbox Wire to outline what the new Microsoft Store experience on Xbox entails. For starters, speed. The rebuilt experience is more than twice as fast as the current experience and launches in under two seconds. In the day and age of technology being as advanced as it is, speed is key. Another focus of the rebuilding of the Microsoft Store is making things easier for users.
“Our goal is to provide an inclusive and intuitive experience for everyone, and we’re committed to making it easier than ever to find your next favorite game, app, movie, or TV show,” Bird said on Xbox Wire. “This starts with a fully redesigned navigation system, allowing you to jump between shopping experiences in a snap or deep dive into something specific.”
The team working on the new Microsoft Store experience on Xbox also rebuilt features such as the Wish List, shopping cart, and they made it easier to look for titles across four generations of Xbox. In addition to this, they’ve also made the experience overall safer. They’ve changed how content is filtered to align with family settings and users must be signed in before they can browse the store. “With this update, we ensure that content rated beyond a user’s content filter level does not appear anywhere in search or browse experiences,” Bird said. “This means that a child with content filters set for an 8-year old will not be able to view content in the store that is rated for a teenager, for example.”
Some Xbox Insiders will begin testing the new Microsoft Store experience as early as August 5th and will continue to roll out to more Insider until the update is released this fall.
