John Wick 4 Release Date Delayed Due To Coronavirus Pandemic
While current times in our world appear somewhat bleak, many look to the future with hope, as it promises many exciting gifts given by the patron saint of wholesome badassery, Keanu Reeves. With many claiming the year 2019 as a Keanu-ssance of sorts, the Reeves is next confirmed for several big entertainment projects, including his much-hyped appearance in Cyberpunk 2077 as well as the return of his two biggest movie roles. Keanu’s upcoming appearances in The Matrix and John Wick franchises were both set to release next year, but now, it seems that the coronavirus pandemic has caused the John Wick 4 release date to be significantly moved up.
As reported on Variety, Lionsgate has announced that they will be delaying the John Wick 4 release date. Titled ‘John Wick: Chapter 4,’ the movie was originally set to release on May 21, 2021, but its release has now been rescheduled to May 27, 2022, which falls on Memorial Day Weekend. Funnily enough, this schedule change actually helps prevent Keanu from defeating himself, as the new Matrix film starring Reeves was also set to release in May 2021.
It should be noted though that this delay is not entirely unrelated to The Matrix film. Reeves was reportedly only four weeks into filming his reprisal of Neo and still had to fulfill his commitment to that project before he could begin work on John Wick 4. With the coronavirus also delaying production on The Matrix 4, it is not known when filming will presume, thus leaving production dates for John Wick 4 up in the air as well. Still, both of these projects are very much alive, and it will not be long before Neo, John Wick, and Ted “Theordore” Logan all grace the silver screen once more.
