VALORANT First-Person Shooter Revealed By Riot Games (VIDEO)

Late last year, League of Legends developer Riot Games held its 10th anniversary stream in which it announced several new and upcoming projects, the majority of which involve the free-to-play MOBA. The noticeable outlier dubbed ‘Project A’ steps away from the League of Legends universe, and Riot has now pulled back the curtains and revealed that it is officially called VALORANT.

Riot Games announced today that Project A is officially called VALORANT, a 5v5 character-based tactical shooter slated to release later this year. A free-to-play first-person shooter, Riot released a brief alpha gameplay trailer showcasing some of what fans can expect from later gameplay reveals as we approach the title’s Summer 2020 release window. Check it out below:

“VALORANT is Riot Games’ upcoming 5v5 character-based tactical shooter,” the video description reads. “This alpha gameplay footage was captured from an internal developer playtest – pardon the video quality, we hope you appreciate the gameplay. If you like what you see (or hear), come play in Summer 2020.”

At first glance, VALORANT looks to be a healthy cross between CS:GO and Overwatch, offering players a unique tactical FPS that gets just a bit weird thanks to what will hopefully end up being a robust character-based system. According to the newly launched official website, Riot Games wants players to be able to win “on your skill and strategy alone,” though it also states that creativity “is your greatest weapon.” Now that the news is out, chances are we won’t have to wait too long for more info and gameplay footage.

VALORANT is slated to release in Summer 2020.
