Red Dead Online Receives Biggest Update Yet As Mode Leaves Beta

Red Dead Online

Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived in the fall of last year bringing along with it a multiplayer experience as well that runs in a similar vein as Grand Theft Auto Online. A series of missions in Red Dead Online let players take on work for a widow on the hunt for answers involving her husband’s murder. The latest update finally brings fans the next chapter to the story as well as a large variety of new stuff along the way. Oh, and now it’s out of beta!

According to the latest Rockstar blog post, the new Lands of Opportunity missions will provide players with two diverging storylines. The more honorable Gunsligner path will send players into a fight with the Del Lobos gang as they help out Marshall Tom Davies save Valentine. Down the disreputable Outlaw path, fans will attempt a major heist of the Saint-Denis bank and in the end, both paths will come to a head with a dangerous showdown in Blackwater.

The Red Dead Online update also brings with it a plethora of new things to do in the open world such as new dynamic events similar to those of the single-player campaign. In these events, players may run across a settler in need of help or perhaps an opportunistic rogue hoping to take their valuables and horse. Of course, there are also new Free Roam missions and even new Possee Challenges to take on with friends. In case players want to get in on some sanctioned PvP action, they can do so with a new game mode tasking teams with infiltrating across into enemy lines to capture their territory all the while defending their own.

A new option has been added that allows players to choose between Offensive and Defensive play while roaming about within the world of Red Dead Online. The Offensive option is the default playstyle and is essentially how players have dealt with others until this point, giving them the option to freely engage in hostile actions with each other while accepting the consequences of either winning or losing. The Defensive playstyle is more geared towards players who want to play more passively, giving them better defenses against enemy players like reduced damage taken, they can’t be lassoed, attacked with melee, executed, or targeted with auto-aim. At the same time, however, these players won’t be notified of PvP related events nor will they be able to be targeted for them either.

The stores within Red Dead Online provide players with a plethora of new items such as ponchos, emotes, and even a new LeMat Revolver that also doubles as a shotgun that players can swap between on the fly. As with most updates, this one also provides quite a few bug fixes and balancing changes. The hostility system, in particular, has gained some interesting changes that allow players to check their own Hostility level among other things.

Red Dead Online

In the months to come the developers hope to bring tons of new content into Red Dead Online such as new characters, modes, and more. This latest update marks the end of the Beta period for the multiplayer experience and from here the developers aim to bring new ways to interact with the world even further such as “roles” for players to choose between, giving them new rewards to earn and skills to acquire.

In addition, all players who jump into Red Dead Online this week will get a gift of 15 Gold Bars and see a 25% increase of XP on A Land of Opportunities, Free Roam Missions, Showdown Modes, Races and Free Roam Events. Treasure hunters will also find 25% extra Cash and Gold in chests containing them. All Ultimate Edition owners will also get a gift of RDO$100 and the Throat Slit emote for free.
