With next-gen speeding towards the horizon, several developers have announced the availability of quite a few games for the emerging PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. With upgraded versions of Marvel’s Spider-Man and Assassin’s Creed Valhalla already set to grace these systems soon, several others are also poised to join in but have yet to hammer out specific release dates. However, it appears SEGA has now secured a next-gen debut for Yakuza: Like A Dragon with the reveal of a release date for the PlayStation 5.

Revealed in a new announcement (via Gematsu), Like A Dragon is slated to release for the PS5 on March 2nd, 2021. Previously slated for “a later date,” the Sony port was confirmed to be a free upgrade for owners of the digital and physical PS4 versions and will retail at $59.99 USD rather than the growing next-gen trend of $69.99. In addition to this new announcement, all-new PlayStation 5 gameplay has also seen the light of day, showing off the title’s unique turn-based combat captured in 4K resolution.

In conjunction with this update to the Sony side of the coin, Yakuza: Like A Dragon was also revealed to have a new release date for Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. Confirming the news on Twitter, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio announced the game will now launch “slightly earlier” on November 10th, with this date change reflecting on the previously slated iterations for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. As with the PS5, the Xbox One version was also confirmed to include a free next-gen upgrade via the Smart Delivery program on Xbox Series X/S.

With a new November release date locked in, Yakuza: Like a Dragon will finally make its way to the west several months after the game’s Japanese launch back in January. It’ll still be a bit longer for the PlayStation 5 version, though, the game appears to be worth the wait regardless of platform, especially with both major consoles offering a free next-gen upgrade to current-gen customers. While Yakuza fans will have this latest title to expect in the meantime, an official Yakuza movie is also confirmed to be in the works with SEGA.
