Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Reportedly In “Final Stages Of Development”

Xenoblade Chronicles 3

As Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has been released for the better part of four years now, it looks like fans of the action RPG may finally be getting Xenoblade Chronicles 3. This new bit of speculation comes from a recent FanByte report claiming a number of details regarding an unannounced third entry. First and foremost, development on the title is said to be “nearing its final stages” and could possibly see a reveal happen “before the end of the calendar year.”

According to sources with the site, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is set to be the conclusion of a trilogy, following up the events of XC2 in a “far-flung future” and featuring “a few” returning characters “who have long-outlived their human counterparts.” As for gameplay, the source says Monolith Soft is aiming to include “more character models on screen” than ever before in the series, accounting for the game’s roster of playable characters as well as enemies.

Furthermore, the report suggests development has endured a “difficult time” optimizing the game for Nintendo Switch as well as the general challenges presented by the pandemic. Reportedly, it’s for this reason a Xenoblade Chronicles 3 announcement has yet to take place, as the game is presumed delayed past its “exceedingly unlikely” original release window of Winter 2021. The site speculates a launch might happen in “the first half of next year,” but there’s still the possibility of a delay “for any number of reasons.”

This latest report comes after another piece of news regarding Xenoblade Chronicles 3, which involved an interview with actress Jenna Coleman, who voices Melia in the series. As per YouTube channel Din’s Meteorite (via Nintendo Everything), Coleman suggested a third Xenoblade Chronicles game was on the horizon, saying:

“God, when was the first game? Ten years ago? It was a long time ago, I did it pre-Doctor Who days and when they did they second one, they asked me to come back. And I think they’re going to do another. Common knowledge? Don’t know. Yeah, I think they’re going to do another. Not sure if I’m allowed to say that.”

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was originally released in December 2017 and has gone on to receive wide acclaim, impressive sales, as well as a notable presence in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Since then, fans have been clamoring for another entry and have even discovered hints to a possible third game, but without much of anything concrete. However, with speculation mounting and the emergence of this new report, perhaps fans can expect to see hopes of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 confirmed sometime soon.
