No Man’s Sky Frontiers Expansion Teased For 5th Anniversary (VIDEO)

Frontiers No Man's Sky Frontiers

Celebrating the past five years of updates, No Man’s Sky is preparing to release its next big expansion, as teased by a new 5th Anniversary video published by developer Hello Games. Titled No Man’s Sky Frontiers, the upcoming content was announced as a “free update for existing players” coming for all supported platforms.

On the PlayStation Blog, Hello Games founder Sean Murray spoke a bit more regarding Frontiers, referring to the expansion as “another step on our voyage” as well as “a missing piece of the sci-fi fantasy that we’ve always wanted to add” in the game’s five-year lifespan. Murray further teased the new content would be “coming soon” and that the dev team would also have “more to share on Frontiers with travellers very soon.”

While the celebration closed with the reveal of No Man’s Sky Frontiers, the 5th Anniversary of Hello Games’ space-exploration survival title is also a momentous occasion in and of itself. Originally launching in 2016, the game was released to vastly poor reception citing a severely over-expectant build-up and a lacking array of features at launch. However, in the five years since, No Man’s Sky has slowly won back audiences and delivered its original vision to an impressive degree across sixteen separate expansions.

As Frontiers presents the seventeenth expansion to grace No Man’s Sky, it’s evident Hello Games still has plenty of fuel in the tank, even as the title reaches its 5th Anniversary. This year alone saw the addition of loveable alien pets, community-focused expeditions, as well as the Normandy from BioWare’s Mass Effect franchise. The Prisms update was also released this past June, refreshing the game’s creatures, vehicles, and environments with an expansive visual overhaul. Time will only tell what Frontiers will offer the game next.

No Man’s Sky is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
