XDefiant Revealed As New Team-Based Tom Clancy Shooter (VIDEO)
Tom Clancy games are aplenty these days with The Division, Rainbow Six, and Ghost Recon throwing down some pretty engrossing experiences in recent years. Even so, Ubisoft is still looking to introduce more titles under the iconic military shooter brand, with 5v5 title Elite Squad and the recently delayed Rainbow Six Extraction being a few of the most recent to come to prominence. On the heels of the latter announcement, Ubisoft has now unveiled XDefiant as the next new title to bear the Tom Clancy name.
As revealed during a new live stream event, Ubisoft San Francisco revealed XDefiant as an all-new entry to the Tom Clancy universe, presenting a free-to-play 6v6 multiplayer spin on the traditional franchise formula. Offering fast-paced, tech-enhanced arena combat, the title features a total of four factions reminiscent of groups from the franchise, including Ghost Recon Breakpoint’s Wolves faction, the Splinter Cell-based Echelon group, and The Division’s Cleaners and Outcasts. Check out the reveal alongside an official description below.
“Welcome to the party! Tom Clancy’s XDefiant is a free-to-play, fast-paced arena shooter that combines intense gunplay with personalized loadouts and specialized factions, as teams of gunfighters – called Defiants – battle for domination.”
As of now, there’s currently no date regarding when Tom Clancy’s XDefiant will release, but an official beta test is scheduled to kick off for PC players in the US and Canada on August 5th. Registration is currently available on the game’s website, with more betas expected to roll out at a later date. Whenever the game hits stores, the title is also said to follow a live-service approach, offering continued support with updates and introducing new content at various intervals after launch.
Tom Clancy’s XDefiant is set to release for PC, Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
