There Is Now An Actual XCOM Satellite In Space
All right, this is by no means meant to alarm anyone, but there is now an actual XCOM satellite in space and you should totally be worried. Just kidding, probably. Anyways, Kennedy Space Center was host to a rocket that launched on May 4th as part of several experiments made in conjunction with the International Space Station. The experiment in question was named XCOM, short for X-ray Communication, and was made to showcase NASA and the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory’s ability to utilize the X-ray band for communicative purposes.
So, how’d we learn about the interesting name coincidence? None other than the designer of XCOM and XCOM 2 himself, Jake Solomon, posted about the interesting name choice over on his Twitter account, accompanying the shared post with a simple “Wait. What?” Check it out below:

Is it possible that the name was just pure coincidence, or did the guy or gal that gets to officially name things do it on purpose? Well, more likely the former than the latter, it’s still pretty hilarious if you think about it. This by no means implies that we’ll be invaded by aliens in the near future. Totally.
XCOM 2 is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
