The Xbox Home Button is Getting a Change Up From Microsoft
Mike Ybarra, in a post to Xbox Wire, revealed that Microsoft is changing the Xbox home button functionality on all controllers with an upcoming update. Gamers can expect some new and simpler features, upping the convenience without interrupting what you were doing before you hit the button. Stick around, because we’ve got all the details for you right here!
The post on Xbox Wire revealed an upcoming update that would allow players to use the home button on their Xbox One controller to access a new and improved Guide screen. The screen is expected to provide quicker access to some select features, which are meant to make things easier to navigate without disrupting other applications. “How?” you might ask.
The new Guide screen available with the Xbox home button update will be an overlay that appears on top of your current open applications. Here, players will be allowed to start recording their latest GameDVR clip, adjust video recording length, and even look at their existing videos all in the same guide. On top of this feature is the ability to broadcast to Beam instantly, a service introduced this past October for gamers looking to broadcast between Windows 10 and Xbox One. Yarba had this to say about the exciting updates coming this year:
These updates are about four key themes: Streaming, Performance, People, and Competition.”
The post has a lot to say about fan input and how those requests heavily influenced the coming updates for 2017. Microsoft is focusing on connectivity between platforms while allowing people to have more control over how they organize their gameplay. We think the prospects are pretty awesome!
Among the list of announcements is the ability to track achievements with a new overlay, as well! Gamerscore Leaderboard, a new design to the Cortana interface, and updated controls for background music are just a few of the things fans can expect with the Xbox home button update. Coupled with some changes to the social activity feed, Looking For Group, and Clubs (like better management tools for Clubs and the ability to share LFG posts to the social activity feed), these features are looking to be some heavy hitters.
Microsoft has had a tumultuous week with the uncertainty of whether or not Project Scorpio will make it to E3 2017, and the cancellation of Scalebound. This Xbox home button update is a much needed bit of silver lining for fans of the console. The highlight of their 2017 update roster is that they are really taking fan input to heart, and that can only mean more satisfaction for gamers!
While some of these features will be introduced next week, we haven’t heard word of when all of the features will be available. However, we do know that we are looking forward to seeing what’s next form Microsoft! So you don’t miss what’s next from DFTG, be sure to follow us on Twitter!
