X-Men Spinoff New Mutants Gets Terrifying First Trailer (VIDEO)

A superhero horror film isn’t something you see every day. At the fittingly spooky time of midnight, 20th Century Fox released the very first teaser trailer for the X-Men spinoff New Mutants. The footage features a unique amount of frightening imagery and an overall dark atmosphere not normally seen in average superhero movies.

The trailer, which you can watch below, follows a group of mutant teenagers admitted into an isolated hospital to get their underdeveloped and “dangerous” abilities under control. While none of the new mutants’ spectacular powers are featured, each of them are shown to be haunted by a series of intense nightmare scenarios. The cast of angsty teen characters definitely gives off the likely intended Breakfast Club vibe, but with the blatantly obvious addition of terrifying jumpscares.

The New Mutants director Josh Boone revealed the scarefest of superhero story earlier this year. Until now, it was left unclear how much truth there was in his description of a “full-fledged horror movie,” but it appears that Boone chose his words wisely.

No stranger to the world of horror is Split actress Anya Taylor-Joy, who plays the character Magik in the film. She is joined by Game of Thrones‘ Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Mirage, and Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes. The New Mutants is scheduled for theatrical release on April 13, 2018.
