The Witcher Netflix Series Filming Location Possibly Revealed
The Witcher Netflix series has not even officially begun filming yet, and yet so much of the project’s production has been disclosed to fans of the franchise already. Showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich has been providing fans with numerous updates during pre-production on her various social media accounts.
According to Hissrich, the show has already begun casting, though the actors in the running have not been confirmed. Fans have been curious as to what locations will be used to visualize The Continent seen in the books and games. Now, we may finally know the primary Witcher filming location that will serve this purpose.
Omega Underground has reported that the primary filming location for The Witcher Netflix series will be Budapest, Hungary. This choice certainly makes sense for Netflix on many different levels. Given the Polish ethnicity of the series’ author, Andrzej Sapkowski, and the Eastern European cultural influence on The Witcher’s lore, it makes sense for the series to film relatively near the region of its origin.
As it is with any rumor, be sure to keep a bit of salt on standby. Budapest is also quite familiar to big TV and film productions, as projects like Van Helsing, Season of the Witch, and the Hercules movie starring Dwayne Johnson have all filmed there. Netflix has even filmed in Budapest already with their Marco Polo series, so it’s not entirely impossible that we could see The Witcher filmed in the same location.
There’s still no word yet on when exactly the 8 episodes ordered by Netflix will be filmed, nor when the series will premiere. Still, with the passion of the creative minds behind the project, and the care they’ve taken so far in assuring fans of their handling of the franchise, The Witcher Netflix series should be an exciting take on Geralt of Rivia and his bathtub of enjoyment.
