Valorant Dev Explains Why Most Beta Cheaters Are Still Banned

Valorant is currently enjoying its first week as a full release on PC, with the game’s first battle pass – Ignition: Act 1 – occupying players with its myriad of obtainable cosmetics. That said, not all PC gamers are able to access the game, with Riot Games recently confirming that Valorant Closed Beta cheaters will continue to be denied access to the game despite it now having released in full.

Speaking to IGN, Valorant Anti-Cheat Lead Paul Chamberlain explained the decision to continue to uphold the majority of the bans made during the Closed Beta period, while also explaining how the team is tracking these bans. “All cheating account bans are permanent for the account,” Chamberlain said in the statement.

Most cheating account bans also come with a hardware ban, meaning we track their souls through time and space and ban them again when they try to re-enter the game with a fake mustache.”

The above statement is an impressive flex, though it’s one we can certainly appreciate. Riot Games has been decidedly adamant in terms of adhering to its strict anti-cheat policies, with the League of Legends developer going so far as to offering a hefty bounty to any savvy hackers that are able to uncover weaknesses in its controversial Riot Vanguard anti-cheat program.

While all cheating-related bans are permanent in nature, Paul Chamberlain did confirm that some of the bans can and will be reversed in time depending on their severity. “I can’t reveal too much here, but I will say that not all of these bans are permanent, and we do periodically review them to lift specific ones,” Chamberlain said.

At release, we have reviewed all existing hardware bans and unbanned some of the less egregious offenders. We are not planning to remove any more hardware bans until our next periodic review.”

While Riot Vanguard remains to be one of the more hotly discussed points regarding Valorant, I’ll be over here quietly enjoying my cheater-free PvP matches. Valorant is now available free-to-play for PC.
