Ubisoft Shutting Down Online Multiplayer Support For Several Older Games

Online multiplayer has become an integral part of modern gaming over the years and Ubisoft has not been one to shy away. Triple-A titles such as Assassin’s Creed and the Tom Clancy series have taken full advantage of online gameplay, providing fun long past a game’s single player campaign. An unfortunate reality behind these services is they require valuable resources to operate, numbering the days of less-popular online experiences. So, Ubisoft shutting down multiplayer support for older games seemed almost inevitable.

Posted in the Ubisoft forums, a series of titles and respective platforms were revealed to end their online run effective on Saturday, November 11th. These games were stated to continue working in single-player modes, but supplemental features like news, leaderboards, the Uplay service, and ULC rewards will not be available in-game. The list of multiplayer titles that Ubisoft shutting down support for will affect can be viewed below:

  • Assassin’s Creed: Recollections (iOS, Mac)
  • Call of Juarez 3: The Cartel (PC)
  • ESPN Sport Connections (Wii U)
  • Flashback Origins (PC)

  • Just Dance: Disney Party (Wii, Xbox 360)
  • Marvel Avengers: Battle for Earth (Wii U, Xbox 360)
  • Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360)
  • Rabbids Land (Wii U)

Ubisoft Multiplayer Games Will Be Shutting Down Soon

With the heavy focus of online gaming as of late, one has to wonder what will happen when modern games eventually reach the end of their lives. Popular titles such as For Honor, and Overwatch, and Destiny 2 all rely heavily on a multiplayer community and could essentially disappear if ever they shut down. While that seems like a pretty upsetting thought, it’s probably best to enjoy these experiences while they last, especially as multiplayer is currently becoming the new norm.

What do you think? Do you believe Ubisoft shutting down online support for these games is a bad move, or are you not a fan of any of these outdated titles?
