Ubisoft Wants To Bring Multiplayer Back To Assassin’s Creed
Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is releasing this Friday and is already getting rave reviews from critics, including a glowing review from our own Liana Ruppert! Ubisoft has breathed a type of new life into the Assassin’s Creed series since the release of 2016’s Assassin’s Creed: Origins. With a brand new engine, combat mechanics, and a focus on large-scale exploration in massive worlds. While players are certainly looking forward to the RPG-inspired trappings of Odyssey, there are some players who might be missing the multiplayer of the previous games.
In an interview with Game Informer, Chief Creative Officer of Ubisoft, Serge Hascoet, shed some light on what they’d like to pursue using their technology found in their biggest games. He said:
We have many technologies, so it’s case by case, but Assassin’s Creed has no multiplayer mode, and that is very important for the social aspect of gaming, so we are looking for that. Also, when you want to change something in the world in our games, right now the player has to download 20GB.”
Introduced in Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, the cat-and-mouse multiplayer in AC games was a breath of fresh air during a time when it seemed like multiplayer modes were being shoehorned into traditionally single-player franchises. Ubisoft took advantage of the stealth and subterfuge aspects of their universe and crafted a multiplayer feature that made sense in its flagship franchise.
Seeing a more seasoned-Ubisoft’s take on Assassin’s Creed multiplayer would be really cool, especially one that takes advantage of their beautifully crafted worlds found in Odyssey and Origins.
