Tom Hardy Confirms More Mad Max Films in the Future

Mad Max

In 2015, audiences everywhere were sent on an action packed thrill ride in George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road. The film stunned fans as Tom Hardy filled Mel Gibson’s shoes as the title character flawlessly. So will Hardy be returning to the wasteland as Mad Max? According to Hardy, “definitely.”

Tom Hardy is currently promoting his new show Taboo on FX. After a panel at a Television Critics Association (TCA) event, Hardy was asked if the rumored title Mad Max: The Wasteland was still in the works, in which he replied:

“Yeah, as far as I’ve signed to do three of them. It’s a question of when. I’m not sure it’s called The Wasteland or not ‘cause you never know. These titles change all the time. But, there’s definitely another Mad Max project pending.”

Director George Miller did announce that other films were initially planned when Fury Road released, but no further updates have been given as of yet. As far as Mad Max himself is is concerned, Hardy is ready to race through the desert again at a moments notice.

“I’m anxiously waiting to find out. There’s mythology to do with Mad Max that spans copious amounts of tales. What’s wonderful about George [Miller] is that he’s created sagas for Max and sagas for Furiosa, so it’s what he chooses to focus in on. I’m really just waiting for the call like, “All right, let’s get the leathers on and get back out there and do some more.” It’s there. I’m just waiting for it and looking forward to it.”

It’s always enlightening to know that an actor genuinely loves the role he or she has taken on, especially when there is an already established fan-base prior to production. Relationships between actor and director are also important when adding to a franchise, and the relationship between Hardy and Miller seems to be an admired one:

“I love working with George [Miller] and the fact that his mythology is so deep. It’s a joy to work with an artist and somebody who has the ability to be a movie maker, as well. It’s the full package, isn’t it?”

We may not have any official time frame as to when we can expect our favorite high-octane hero to return to the big screen, but in the meantime, you can catch Tom Hardy in Taboo on FX, Tuesdays at 10 P.M. EST. Are you hopeful for more Mad Max films. What did you think of Hardy’s portrayal of the lead character? Sound off in the comments section below.
