Game of Thrones Spin-Off Will Be “Recognizable as a Past Event” for Fans of the Books and Show

Game of Thrones Spin-off series

With the season 7 finale fast approaching, and season 8 set to be the last, it may be time to begin thinking about life after Game of Thrones. What beloved characters that have escaped death until this point will either meet their demise in the remaining seven episodes or ride off into the sunset on a dragon. Needless to say, a lot is in store for cast members and fans alike. After the show ends, however, the Game of Thrones spin-off series will start, and we may have a few hints as to what it could be about.

Little is known about the Thrones spin-off as of right now, but in a recent interview, screenwriter Jane Goldman, who is teaming up with George R.R. Martin to develop one of the incoming series, dropped a few tidbits about the show. We are already aware that they will all be prequels and that they won’t have anything to do with current characters, but Goldman has hinted that both readers and viewers should likely know what they are about. When asked if the stories will be completely new or something fans are already privy to, she had this to say:

Yeah, I think I can say if I was able to say what mine was — yeah, I think as a book reader or as someone who watched the series, you would say, “Oh, that! OK.” Yeah, it would be recognizable as a past event, but I think that’s probably as far as I can go.”

If it were just the readers of the books that would get it, that could mean a ridiculous amount of things. Including viewers of the series only limits that, so it’s time to start going over the show with a trusty magnifying glass. It could be anything from the first Targaryen civil war all the way to when the Children of the Forest and the First Men squared off against one another. Nothing has been set in stone yet, but when asked if magical elements and the like will make an appearance, Jane said:

Yeah, I mean those are things that exist in the universe that George has created and it’s certainly — that’s an aspect that I love so, umm, yeah. (laughs) I’m sure there’s an element of that in anything that’s being developed but, yeah, that’s — I guess so, yeah. I feel like I’m saying way too much! I can say absolutely nothing.”

It’s akin to pulling teeth with her, isn’t it? This is completely understandable, of course. The upcoming Thrones spin-off series are supposed to be shrouded in secret. Then again, so is everything related to the show, but recent leaks have been compromising that. In fact, out of the four that are being planned, there’s a good chance only one of them ever makes it to HBO. It’s too early in the game to tell which one it will be, but you better believe we’ll keep you updated here at Don’t Feed the Gamers as this story develops.

What say you, GoT fans? Which past event that has so much as been mentioned in the show will the upcoming spin-off series be about? Will we see the mysterious destruction of Valyria? Will we get to join along in the adventures of expert longbow wielder Ser Brynden Rivers?
