New Game of Thrones Short Story From George R. R. Martin Coming This Year
This definitely has been a long winter for fans of George R. R. Martin’s series, A Song of Ice and Fire. The latest novel in the series, The Winds of Winter, has suffered delay after delay for its release date, and there is still no set release date for the project. While Martin did release a chapter of the book on his LiveJournal page last May, and the Game of Thrones tv adaptation has surpassed the last novel’s storyline, fans have had little to satiate their wait for the new novel. However, it appears a new Game of Thrones short story is coming to help with the wait.
A newly listed Amazon posting for a collection of anthology short stories, Book of Swords, by acclaimed science fiction author Gardner Dozois has confirmed that the book will contain a new short story written by George R. R. Martin that will take place in the Game of Thrones universe. While no information has been given about the characters of plot that will be involved in this short story, one could reasonably assume that the story will be relatively self-contained in regards to the greater story of his novels.
Book of Swords is currently set to release on October 10th of this year, while The Winds of Winter currently has no set release date. Hopefully, fans will not be too discouraged about Martin’s work on this story and will not regard it as a distraction from working on the anticipated novel. For some writers, that is the name of the game, and the great game is terrifying. What do you guys think? Are you interested in reading this Game of Thrones short story?
