Take-Two CEO Responds To Red Dead Redemption 2 Battle Royale Rumors

It was a long and arduous battle of rumor after circulating rumor about Red Dead Redemption 2‘s release date and myriads of other details; many of them rendered null by the publisher or developer themselves. Needless to say, this game is one of the most highly anticipated sequels on the market, especially following such unanimous praise of the original game. The latest report that’s been making the rounds is a possible battle royale mode, and Take-Two CEO is here to address those rumors.

Take-Two CEO, Strauss Zelnick, is the public voice for the series and responded to the Red Dead Redemption 2 rumors with poise. As vaguely as possible, he believes that there are demands to be met, but following trends isn’t always the best idea depending on the franchise. With that being said, here’s his response during a recent interview:

I think more detail on game mechanic specifics really comes at the label level. But I would just observe that someone else’s success is really interesting and we’re obviously informed by what our competitors do. But our goal is to be as innovative as possible.

Titles, even really good titles that are derivative never seem to do as well as innovations that are unexpected. I don’t see our labels being super excited about being derivative. That said of course we play in the world and are informed by what’s going and bring consumers what they want.”

With that being said, nothing is concrete. There’s still the possibility of a battle royale mode in Red Dead Redemption 2, but creating some even more innovative is high on the priority list. To satisfy a trend in the gaming industry for the community, or to continue doing what they do best or even better – that seems to be the question!

Red Dead Redemption 2 is slated for release October 26th, 2018 on PS4 and Xbox One. What do you think of Take-Two CEO’s response? Do you believe Zelnick’s statements make it obvious enough what their plans are, or are you still waiting for a definitive answer? Let us know in the comments section below or start a conversation on Don’t Feed the Gamers Facebook page.
