System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition Announced

Based in Portland, Oregon, independent developer Nightdive Studios is hard at work bringing a few classic titles back from the retro shelves with modern visual enhancements. Since 2012, they’ve been dedicated to their cause, especially notable with their wildly successful crowdfunding campaign to reboot the original System Shock from 1994. Now, they’ve yet another surprise in store – the reveal of System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition.

As the Nightdive team brings back the likes of Turok, Turok 2, and System Shock, it looks like their ambitions are pushing them to launch an enhanced edition of System Shock 2. See below:

This may come as a shock to some fans of the series seeing as the reboot of the original game has yet launched. With that latest update for the 1994 release just posted last week, Nightdive isn’t running out of steam anytime soon. According to the Twitter post, System Shock 2: Enhanced Edition is “coming soon,” and that means they’ve already put in the hours to get this out to fans.

Does the title sound familiar, but you’re not quite sure why? The System Shock series began with the original launch in 1994, which was followed by a sequel in 1999. It’s a first-person, horror RPG developed by Irrational Games and Looking Glass Studios. System Shock 2 was a critically-acclaimed video game, especially for its time and renown for its horrifying yet simultaneously gratifying role-playing experience.

What do you think about Nightdive Studios tacking on System Shock 2 to their workload? Do you think bringing back retro games like these are the way into the hearts of many out there?
