Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Minecraft DLC Gameplay, Release Date Revealed (VIDEO)

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Minecraft Steve Alex Zombie Enderman Kirby

After much anticipation, Nintendo finally revealed the next DLC for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as Steve and Alex from Mojang’s creative sandbox title Minecraft. While the initial showcase was held merely to announce the blocky new fighters, more details were set to be revealed in a follow-up livestream from game director Masahiro Sakurai. It appears that date has now arrived, as quite a bit of new gameplay details have been revealed regarding the new Minecraft DLC including a release date.

As part of the stream, Sakurai unveiled quite a few moves for Steve and Alex, confirming the fighters will indeed utilize a very unique and Minecraft-esque moveset. Each character makes use of mining and crafting to gain the upper hand in battle, with players able to dig into stages for materials and build their own items and weapons with the help of a crafting table. Players will also be able to place blocks on the battlefield, allowing the creation of strategic barriers and platforms, so long as they maintain a proper supply of materials. In addition, the character’s Final Smash attack is especially spectacular, as it throws an opponent into a creeper-infested cave to be blown to smithereens.

The new Minecraft DLC is also set to debut a new stage in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate called “Minecraft World.” The area appears to be taken straight out of the Mojang Studios title, featuring the same blocky aesthetic as well as a total of six different variants based on the game’s various biomes. As an added touch, each version of the stage features villagers, animals, and other mobs roaming in the background, including the nocturnal likes of skeletons and zombies thanks to the level’s day-night cycle. The stage also comes paired with a collection of music tracks from Minecraft Earth and Minecraft Dungeons, forgoing the relaxing and peaceful tunes of the original Minecraft.

As of now, Minecraft is all set to join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on October 13th as part of the Challenger Pack 7 DLC. The content will be available as part of Fighters Pass Vol. 2 as well as a standalone purchase of $5.99 USD. This new addition marks only the second fighter to join Ultimate in the new Fighters Pass, with Min Min of ARMS fame previously joining the roster back in June. In all, four more guest characters remain as part of the Pass, and if past inclusions are any metric, it’s possible Sakurai may have a few more surprises in store for players.

What do you think? Are you wowed by all that’s included in Challenger Pack 7, or do you feel that Minecraft could be a bit overpowered compared to the rest of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster?
