This Mod Turns A Steam Link Machine Into An Interactive DIY Arcade Cabinet

Steam Link

Gamers are a very dedicated and creative bunch capable of doing incredible things with their talents. Modders in particular are renowned for their abilities to bring new life into games and tech bringing more joy and use from them that anybody could have hoped for. Such is the case with one man who took it upon himself to create a sleek and epic arcade cabinet that’s actually a Steam Link machine.

Wanting to create something different Imgur user Inferno156 crafted a design from scratch and took to the popular site to show off his slick looking creation:

I wanted to build an arcade, but wanted to do something different than the RetroPie bartop arcades I see everywhere. So I designed “The Steam Engine Arcade” to run on a Steam Link (Purchased for $5 during the winter sale) and let my gaming PC do the work. It came out even better than I’d hoped and I had to share.

Alongside an image of the finished product Inferno also goes through a detailed description of the creation process from his digital designs to the finishing touches such as painting and lighting tests.

Here is the rendering (a.k.a. The goal) that I built in Fusion 360. Originally it was not going to have a drawer. However, after playing around with measurements on a cardboard mockup, I decided it would be too much eye strain if you stood that close. However I still wanted the slim profile, so the drawer feature was added (plus CUPHOLDER BONUS).”

From that point, he used some incredible woodworking skills to cut each piece and assembly them accordingly.  The end product is a sight to behold, offering players a gorgeous cabinet with a minimalistic, collapsible design. If you’d like to check out the full process to try and craft this incredible cabinet for yourself, the step-by-step instructions can be found here.

Inferno’s Steam Link arcade cabinet would be perfect for playing the recently released Dragonball FighterZ. Players might even find it better to play the game on the lowest settings for that classic retro feel. Will you be using some creative juices to build your own cabinet?
