Stargate is Returning This Fall – Watch the Teaser for the All New Show Here (VIDEO)
Stargate, the science fiction franchise that took television by storm starting in the 90’s will be making an unprecedented, but completely welcome return. MGM announced during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con the revival of the series alongside a stunning new teaser trailer to get the ball rolling, which can be seen below. Though it may be short and vague revealing old footage, a poster quality image, and time frame for the series’ arrival – there is a lot to look forward to.
Stargate: Origins will be a 10 episode installment that will premiere on the exclusive streaming site Stargate Command. It will follow the story of Catherine Langford, daughter of archaeologist Paul Langford and a character who has appeared in the shows before. The exclusively online show will be directed by Mercedes Bryce Morgan and will follow Catherine as she ventures forth in discovery and exploration to save Earth.
In a separate statement released by MGM president Kevin Conroy, the excitement to relaunch the series was just as much a show of gratitude to the fans as anything else.
We’ve been eager to revisit the Stargate franchise, and create an all-new story that honors the founding mythos and gives loyal fans more mystery and adventure. We view Stargate Origins as a thank you to fans who have been keeping the spirit of the franchise alive for nearly 25 years. With the increasing popularity of digitally native content that can be streamed to any device, MGM is committed to the production of premium linear mid-form content and are proud to launch with Stargate Origins.”
Stargate Command will have various paid and free features surrounding the franchise, providing “new and existing fans exclusive access to a variety of Stargate assets and content from the franchise’s nearly 25-year history”. Subscribers will be granted access to content that includes behind the scenes production footage, a like-minded community, and the most “comprehensive collection” of related content ever offered in one easy-access place. With fans spanning over Stargate (1994), SG-1 (1997-2007), Atlantis (2004-2009), and Universe (2009-2011), there will be multi-faceted perspectives looking in on the premiere of Origins.
Upon the announcement of their new streaming service for the franchise Chris Ottinger, the president of Worldwide Telvision Distribution and Acquisitions at MGM, had this to say:
We saw a need for a definitive hub for the Stargate fanbase to continue to enjoy news and content, both old and new. Stargate Command will open a new door for the community to celebrate and interact with all content in a way that has never been done before.”
