Starfield Unveils Vasco, The Trusty Robotic Companion

One of the most beloved developer-publishers in the gaming industry has been Bethesda Softworks. The company behind iconic franchises like Fallout and The Elder Scrolls has positioned themselves well at the top of the gaming industry. After years of sticking with their tried and true franchises, their next big project will take a bold step with a new franchise, Starfield. The sci-fi game has intrigued many fans and has excited Microsoft with their hopes to make the game be even more popular than Skyrim. Now, Bethesda has released a new video revealing the game’s trusty robotic companion Vasco.

Bethesda has released a new video narrated by lead artist Istvan Pely on their official YouTube channel that focuses on the robotic companion Vasco. The machine was made by Lunar Robotics and has been refurbished to help Constellation in their space expeditions. Various concept art sketches of the robot are seen, showing its bipedal design and slender framework. Some of the sketches show Vasco performing mechanic work on spacecraft and detail its various features that allow it to traverse numerous types of terrain.

Vasco is also confirmed to have some defense and combat capabilities, but is primarily meant to be a peaceful droid for non-violent task assistance. Its red and white color-scheme is also revealed to be reflective of Constellation’s main colors, visually signaling its allegiance. There definitely seems to be a lot of influences of other famous pop culture robots in the design. It feels like the utility of R2-D2, the structure of the Power Loader from Aliens and the personality of Baymax from Big Hero 6. While little about the game and its characters have still yet to be revealed, revealing such a multi-faceted companion like Vasco helps give a good idea about the tone and scope of the game.
