Stardew Valley On Nintendo Switch Might Get Multiplayer Soon

It’s been a long road for Stardew Valley and its long-touted multiplayer update. The community-based mode has been in the works for over a year now, with it making its grand debut on Steam this past August. The game’s sole creator ConcernedApe has kept fans informed all along the way as multiplayer development officially shifted from PC to consoles. While Xbox One and PlayStation 4 are due to get co-op capabilities in the future, Nintendo Switch is next on deck to receive the update, and it looks like it could very well happen soon.

Announcing on Twitter, ConcernedApe revealed that the multiplayer update for Switch is currently “in QA” and promised to alert fans as soon as that status progresses. As clarified in a follow-up post, QA is a common abbreviation for “Quality Assurance,” and means the expansion is in its final stages of testing and bug fixes before being officially released.

Multiplayer’s imminent arrival to Stardew Valley Switch is likely an exciting time for those on the hybrid console, if only a bit out of the blue. It was only last month when ConcernedApe issued a much less conclusive announcement regarding Switch and consoles in general. However, he would also take this opportunity to confirm all content currently released for the mode will be included in the eventual update.

With Sony’s recent step-up to the crossplay table, questions of whether Stardew Valley will support the feature were inevitable to come up as well. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like we’ll get to do any multiplatform mining anytime soon, but the future possibility is at the very least being looked into. Focus currently lies with getting multiplayer going in the first place.

Stardew Valley is currently available for Linux, Mac, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Xbox One. Multiplayer is currently live for Linux, Mac, and PC.
