Space Jam: A New Legacy First Look Revealed (VIDEO)

While 2020 was a disaster in and of itself for the movie theater industry, 2021 shows signs that theaters may somewhat return to normalcy. Still, to be on the safe side, movie studios have been looking to streaming services to monetize their movie output. The biggest known shakeup has come from Warner Bros., which has opted for every planned major film release to hit theaters simultaneously with streaming service HBO Max. These films will include the new live-action Mortal Kombat movie reboot and the long-awaited sequel to Space Jam. Now, the first look at Space Jam: A New Legacy has been released.

HBO Max recently shared a new video on its official social media accounts showcasing the major Warner Bros. films set to release on the service the same day they release in theaters. Several clips of all the new movies for 2021 are seen, including the new Godzilla Vs. Kong, Tom & Jerry, and Suicide Squad movies. Among them also is the new Space Jam sequel, which had not shown any footage until now.

Space Jam

The sequel, titled Space Jam: A New Legacy will now star LeBron James, who takes over from lead NBA star Michael Jordan from the first film. Several classic Looney Tunes characters, including Bugs Bunny, are also returning for the film, as seen in the video clip. What was not known yet is what the classic characters would look like or how they may be animated. Bugs Bunny is seen in the clip next to James, and he appears to mostly continuing his classic appearance, though the animation seems to lean a bit more into the CG 3-dimensional look.

According to a recently disclosed synopsis for the film, Space Jam: A New Legacy will have LeBron and his young son stuck in a virtual space by an evil algorithm voiced by Don Cheadle. Similar to the first movie, the Looney Tunes will once again have to help them participate in a high-stakes basketball game. 90s kids have definitely been waiting eagerly for this one and based on its looks, it should deliver on its promise. I believe it can fly.
