Sony Isn’t Done With Portable Gaming Just Yet
Now that we live in a world where the Nintendo Switch exists, it’s hard to imagine other portable devices that have replicated that sort of success. That being said, Sony has certainly reached their hand into the portable gaming cookie jar, but with support falling off for the PS Vita, it may be difficult trying to picture them keeping that sector of their company going.
In a recent interview with Bloomberg, PlayStation head John Kodera briefly touched on the topic of Sony remaining in the portable game. It seems that the new chief is all for keeping that aspect of the company going, saying “We want to think about many options.”
“In my opinion, rather than separating portable gaming from consoles, it’s necessary to continue thinking of it as one method to deliver more gaming experiences and exploring what our customers want from portable,” he said. This surely lends a hand to a theory that Sony could be considering a hybrid console not unlike the Switch. There is always the possibility that they play off of the Vita, which has seen its fair share of success.
Only time will tell what the company decides to do for gamers on the go moving forward, but at this time, it’s not “the right stage to discuss specific hardware plans,” according to Kodera. Maybe we’ll get a taste of what Team Blue is cooking up at this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, but it’s too early to tell.
