The Simpsons And Family Guy Movies Currently In Development
Following the success of The Simpsons Movie in 2007, which grossed at $527 million globally, it’s safe to say that 20th Century Fox is ready for another animated hit. The widely recognized adult cartoon series The Simpsons and Family Guy are getting their own movies, both of which are in development right now.
Since Disney’s recent acquisition of 20th Century Fox, it sounds like they’ve got ambitious plans for the future. Though details on the production is still limited to this knowledge, both films will mix together live-action elements and animation. However, last year, Simpsons showrunner Al Jean revealed to Entertainment Weekly that it is still in its early stages. He said:
I’d say [it’s in] the very earliest stages. I certainly am cautious about a couple things. I wouldn’t want it to be risky in terms of budget, and I would not want it to be anything that we did purely for the money. I would want it to be a really great movie. I personally feel no need for another one unless it’s great.”
Seth McFarlene has always entertained the idea of a Family Guy movie and rightfully so. Years back during the success of the Simpsons film, he commented on his desire to create a “Griffins must save the world” storyline. With that being said, perhaps other ideas have arisen since then.
Of course, that won’t compromise the TV series on air, which may clear the air of Disney’s acquisition of the Fox film studio. Since Disney is known for their historically family-friendly content, will the films stay true to the adult humor the animated shows are known for? “There are no plans for them to go anywhere other than Fox,” said Fox CEO Dana Walden.
For now, the creators remain hush-hush on the development of the live-action, animated hybrid.
