Sega Announces Yakuza Online for PC and Smartphones (VIDEO)

Yakuza Online

With all of the news dropping lately, and Yakuza Kiwami set to hit the West on August 29, it would seem as if Sega has developed a Yakuza world and we’re just living in it. In a recent announcement, the company offered up some details on a new title that is set to arrive next year. With a remake of the sequel to the first game being officially confirmed, they have now released information about Yakuza Online, a free-to-play experience that will be made available on PC and smartphones.

Set in Kamurocho, Tokyo and post-Yakuza 6, the upcoming game will follow protagonist Ichiban Kasuga(voiced by Kazuhiro Nakaya). A former member of the Tojo Clan’s Aragawa family, Kasuga is now being released from prison, having spent 17 years there for a crime he took the fall for. Now that he is back in Kamurocho, he’ll have to adjust to the host of changes that have occurred over the years, and also stare into the face of betrayal that awaits. All of this and more can be seen in the prologue video below, complete with English subtitles:

Due to the mobile-ish nature and free-to-play aspect of Yakuza Online, one can only image the amount of microtransactions that await. The game will be the first installment of the New Yakuza Series project, and will release on PC and smartphones in 2018. Outside of the video above, not much else is known at this time.
